In fact, you won’t actually need to have skinning, mining, or herbalism as you can gain decent quantities of all of those materials through your garrison. While in Draenor you’ll find that Garrisons are a big help to the professions. Scrolls for the secondary professions (1st aid, etc.) will simply give you access directly. The scrolls for crafts (Blacksmithing, etc.) will require a short quest. Or, you could, for example, have 0 points of skill in Classic, 73 in Outlands, 0 in Cataclysm and Pandaria, 100 in Warlords, 3 in Legion, and 150 in Battle for Azeroth.Īs you quest in Draenor you will quickly find scrolls that will give you access to the Draenor level skills. You can, for example, blast to 120, and pick up a BFA profession without knowing the previous levels of that profession. Yes, you can grab a Battle for Azeroth profession and level that from skill 1, without needing the earlier skills. You do have to get trained to get any particular skill, but you do not need to have the previous levels.

But yeah… fair warning before you do it: treat it as if you will start over if you want to switch back, because that is 99% what you will basically end up doing. I was pretty confused and angry but mostly at myself for switching in the first place, and also not doing proper research before switching. Turned out I recovered almost nothing of what I previously earned. But what I thought I understood about it was wrong. I eventually wisened up and went to go switch back to alch/herbs, thinking alch shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to get back up to speed, based on what I thought I understood about recovering previously learned professions.
When BfA released I dropped it and Herbalism for Leatherworking / Skinning because I foolishly thought crafted armor professions would actually be useful this expansion. I was an alchemist on my DH during Legion and spent a lot of time leveling it up, farming recipes, etc.
